Report: Yahoo plans cost-cutting moves, layoffs Print E-mail

(CNET News): Yahoo is expected to announce cost-cutting moves this week, including another round of layoffs, according to a report Sunday in The Wall Street Journal.

The exact number of layoffs is unknown, but job cuts are expected to come from all departments in the 14,300-employee company, according to the report. Yahoo, which is set to announce its third-quarter earnings Tuesday, has reportedly asked managers to identify areas where the company can achieve operating budget reductions of 15 percent. In January, Yahoo laid off an estimated 1,100 employees in a bid to cut costs and trim operations that weren't performing as well as others.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is ready to launch it’s first lunar mission which is unmanned. This is tentatively scheduled for 22nd of this month.

Chandrayaan-1: First Take Off to Moon on October 22ISRO said “We have set October 22 as the tentative date for the launch of lunar spacecraft Chandrayaan-1. This launch was originally planned for April this year but was delayed due to technical problems.

With this, India would now join China and Japan which are running their own programs.

ISRO said that the program would be continued with another launch which is currently scheduled for 2012.

Probably the simplest and most effective change that will come with PHP 5.3 is a modification to the way that $_REQUEST superglobal variables are handled. After several years of known vulnerability, it seems that the PHP developers are finally addressing one of the most risky elements of the scripting language.

For those who are unaware, the $_REQUEST superglobal variable in PHP is able to be called from anywhere in any PHP script, can not be overwritten/replaced by a user variable of the same name (though the contents can be changed) and is an associative array with the values passed via GET, POST and via cookie to the particular script ($_GET, $_POST, $_COOKIE PHP superglobals).

 (Daniel Terdiman - CNET News) -  On Tuesday night, Google announced the beta launch of its new AdSense for Games program, the search giant's first foray into the video games market, and the long-awaited answer to the question of what the company planned to do with AdScape Media, which it bought for $23 million in February 2007.Google launches adsense for games

According to Christian Oestlien, the senior product manager for AdSense for Games, the program's beta launch will focus on the placement of a variety of forms of ads in Flash-based casual games and some larger titles.

In the beginning at least, Oestlien said, Google will work with partners like PlayFish, Mochi Media, Demand Media and Konami.

The latter, Oestlien said, would use AdSense for Games to place ads in well-known titles like Frogger and Dance Dance Revolution.
